Portland Newborn Session in Winter

It’s a nice idea to plan your newborn session in-studio. Not only in winter, but also in any other season. This beautiful family of 4 came to the little man’s newborn session!

We keep our studio warm!

Babies would not be comfortable if it is cold. We have a huge heater to make the studio warm quickly. We even ask parents to wear layers in case they get too hot 🙂 We made the studio for little people to be comfortable and so parents can be relaxed to enjoy their wonderful experience with a photo session.

How about having a session at your house?

Being a pro photographer for more than 15 years, I know most professional photographers, who artfully curate images with lighting, posing and well thought out themes in their photography service, would tend to avoid having sessions at your home. Being able to work with artificial lighting is necessary to create consistent quality art especially indoors and in Portland weather. When compared to only natural light photographers who are at the mercy of good weather and timing, being able to curate what you want in any situation is much more preferable. You may think it is hard to get out with a little one, but unless you have someone to clean up your house and stage your house, I think it would be a better experience to have a studio newborn session in Portland.

Portland Newborn Baby Photographer

Kimi Photography is a Portland newborn baby photographer in Oregon. We are photographers who focus on providing generational lasting newborn images to your family in the future. Well, you might wonder what that means? Or maybe you’re thinking Newborn photos can be taken by anybody and just getting data would be enough for pictures? You would technically have photos somewhere right? We’ll try to answer some of these common questions here.

Two kinds of Photographers

We have been in the industry for more than 15 years. Michael has also been in the professional printing industry for more than 25 years. After everything has been switched to digital camera, we learned there are 2 kinds of photographers out there. One is called shoot & burn (or upload now that CD’s aren’t useful anymore). They shoot pictures, maybe put a color filter on and upload to a private gallery to deliver those pictures. DONE! They don’t deal with creating prints nor art. In other words, they don’t know or care what it takes to print quality artwork.

Another kind of photographers create prints and fine art products with photographs and deliver those art products as their final presentation. They of course deal with digital data, but they will be finishing their work with the final printing/art in mind as artists. It takes time, creativity, skill, work, and is more of an investment. Interestingly it also sounds more analogue in this era. Why do they print instead of saving files? Digital files only last for so long depending on the device they are saved on. This is a common knowledge in our industry as professional photographers, but is not so known or thought about by other people.

Digital files vs. Prints

Digital data are very easily misplaced, forgotten, corrupted or inaccessible. Can you easily open data in floppies, VHS, CDs MDs, or blue-ray?

Some Apple devices do not have USB stick outlets anymore. Save on the cloud you say? How can we sort through and hand down cloud data of millions of pictures? Do you even remember what images are there? We don’t have time for that and same with your future family.

Printing may sound old & analogue to some people. However, when you have tangible art and imagery on the walls, on the mantle or easily accessible albums in the bookshelf. The memories you so wanted to cherish are there and can refresh your mind of those special moments. That just doesn’t happen with digital data. So maybe you can understand why we operate the way we do and would like us to create the lasting family treasure for you and the next generations in your family.

At Kimi Photography, not only our clients (baby’s parents) enjoy the pictures, but we want your little baby to enjoy and feel your love by seeing those photographic arts when they get their own family, kids, and grand kids. High quality photographic prints will last that long time and be seen by her future family.

Sanitation for Newborn Photography

If you arrived here and are curious about having your baby’s newborn pictures, Congratulations on your maternity!

Our county is on phase-1, right now on July 16th, 2020. We are open for our business and are being very careful with our personal life and following Oregon Health Authority’s guideline for our business. We are limiting the number of clients right now, because of the sanitation needs for newborn photography.

For newborn photography, sanitation is of course always necessary. Even before the pandemic happens, we have been washing our outfits, clothing (including knitted outfits), and blankets after each client. Also, props were wiped off every time we used them.

After the quarantine, we added some more processes for extreme sanitation for newborn photography on top of what we have been doing. For example, we use 70% alcohol to sanitize furniture, floor, and basically everything we can not wash. For newborn photography, some of the props are touched by skins, so after wipe off all with alcohol, we re-wipe with non- toxic baby safe spray. Here is the link for how to clean!

This is the preparation involved in inviting our clients to our studio. We also ask our clients to fill out the OHA form for our business. It is through the internet and is so easy to submit! We have to keep a record of who came to our studio etc… and we appreciate all of our clients cooperation! We don’t allowed to serve coffee and water right now. You may see the coffee station on the picture, but it is already removed.

When our clients arrive to our photography studio, we ask them to wash their hands after taking off their shoes and putting them into the closed-in shoe box that we have. During the session, we will be wearing masks and gloves for handling and photographing babies. All our gear is sanitized with 70% alcohol as well. This is our process of sanitation for newborn photography at Kimi Photography in Portland. We repeat this process for every client on top of our normal operation.

We would like to keep our studio as clean as possible for our safe community!

After Baby Meal Ideas for Kimi Photography Newborn Clients

Sadly, there is no such a custom in Japan, where I grew up, anymore. My friends, whom are also an international couple, just had their newborn baby and we are enrolled in their meal train. That experience made me think to write after baby meal ideas for Kimi Photography Newborn Clients. My clients are not only from the Portland area, but also from other countries or living in Portland temporarily. Which also means being away from their friends and the baby’s grandparents who might be able to help them if they lived closer. No worries! You put your life on delivering a new life into the world. No body expects you to be the same weight as before pregnancy. How much and when to eat ?

[vc_column_text]According to Web MD, new moms need to have 1,800 and 2,200 calories everyday. If they are nursing, they need up to 500 calories more. I also learned it is a good idea to spread your meals throughout the day, so your power lasts for the whole day.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”4182″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”]

What kind of Nutrients are needed?

[vc_column_text]Proteins: beans, lean meats, eggs, and soys are good to have for recovery.

Calcium: It is good to have 1,000 milligrams (take it from low-fat products) daily.

Also, Iron is necessary to let your body create new blood cells. Red meat and liver has more iron.

If you had twins, have a health condition, or are vegetarian, ask your doctor about your nutrition. Every pregnancy and delivery is different!

This is one of them. The girl found the best place to play with her dolls she brought for the session! It was already occupied when I finished wrapping the baby. Newborn session with siblings in Portland!

As kids are so active, they don’t not stop for your shutter chance. If you force them, they will give you the fake smile… Some kids are really good at making a smile for adults. This boy was really fun and cute, and he behaved perfectly at their newborn session! To capture newborns with brothers and sisters, first I let the newborns pose, then place older siblings.

On the session day, his mom said she did not have a chance to cut the boy’s hair. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Near the end of last year in 2018, I got an honorable email from Basic Invite. Basic Invite is one of the big invitation and card companies in the US. The company asked me to be their featured photographer on their blog! They asked me to share a story of having my business Kimi Photography in the US. As one of many foreigners in the US, I really appreciate the opportunity to be their featured photographer to share my story![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”3866″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]I asked one of my clients to use their pictures for the blog posting. They have been using Kimi Photography since the little girl was still in the belly! Getting to know them for their maternity pictures then they keep using us as their family photographer. How awesome is that!![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]As you read in the blog, the joy and love of photography came first in my life. Kimi Photography also cares how we can remain and become the story teller to the next generations as a professional photographer.

In this generation, anyone can be a “photographer” if you hold camera or phone. There are many aspects to being a professional photographer however. I believe that knowing and applying photography skill to provide better services to capture and create the treasures for future generations is one of the responsibilities to call ourselves as a professional newborn and family photographer 🙂

Newborn pictures as a Christmas gift

Why I am a newborn photographer in Portland

There are many kinds of photography and different kind of photographers in Portland Oregon. I would like to talk about why choosing the right kind of photographer is important for your session. Also, the reason why I become a newborn photographer in Portland.

Usually, my page comes up when people search on Google “Newborn Photographer in Portland (Oregon).” Kimi Photography page does not come up when you search “Product photography in Portland.” Why? Because I am not specialized in product photography!

If you are not familiar to the photography industry, you might not know the reason why the specialty of the photographer matters for your photo session. Newborn photography involves more emotional moments than nature photography.

I sometimes take pictures of weddings using my experience of working for a newspaper and wedding magazine as a photojournalist in past.
