Rose garden maternity photo session in Portland Oregon
It has been a while again after I wrote a blog. I have many images and stories to share. We had a chance to capture their maternity and newborn session in 2023. We visited the Rose garden for their maternity session. I want to share their Rose garden maternity photo session in Portland Oregon.
We visited the garden in August. The best season for roses in Portland is late May to end of July, I would say. Some summers get really hot even in Portland, so it depends on the year though. There were more than enough roses and different kinds of flowers in the garden.
I have been photographing in Portland as a professional for the last 9 years. I have taken a few sessions and visited this garden more often when I started my business, but I explored more places and did not have so many chances to photograph at the Rose garden as often these days. After I photographed their session, I realized how much I like this garden. It only takes 5 mins to get to the garden from where we are located. I think I know what the saying “It is hard to see what is under your nose” means. Haha!
It was a warm day and we met this joyful couple at the park for their session. Almost all the time, we start our outdoor maternity session early in the evening. Lighting will be more picture friendly then.
They were expecting a little girl. The rose colors just brighten up the photos as they were excited for their girl! What I liked about the garden was that there was so much shade in the garden in the afternoon, but not completely covered all over. Especially, if you like to wear white dress or shirts for your outside maternity session like she did, it is very important to find a location with shade.
If you have visited this garden before, you might know there are a few sections in the garden. I do not take my client everywhere in the garden. However, the capability of walking around really helps during the session to capture different moments and angles. We usually plan maternity sessions 2 months before the due date.
